Do Something, Think Big, Start small.

Poverty is a situation some of us found ourselves trapped in, not knowing where to start or even worse without any supporting networks to lift us from the rags and dust of poverty.

We live in  times where jobs are increasingly scarce, we are calling for  all young people to have an infinite upgrade and adaptation to the  new trends in the market especially in the field of technology, there is a rapid shift in innovation and creativity towards all systems in our daily life.

“Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity; it is an act of justice. Like Slavery and Apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great. YOU can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom.” – Nelson Mandela.

Starting a business requires bold steps and good planning (design thinking and business model) before you dive into the crowded competitive markets. At the community level we have identified these gaps, hence the need to create lasting systems that will foster the growth of acquired skills and talents through small practical assignments. The majority of youth who have acquired technical skills are now opting for freelance ventures which aren’t easy especially without any portfolio at hand. At Wilsen we offer the youth a chance to build their portfolio while they work on their business models through guidance and coaching workshops. Our main objective is to manage the skills and talents in a more professional way while promoting the growth of the industry and that of the makers.

How We Do It;

We collaborate on assignments and  are committed to donating our time and resources to working on assignments for the sustainability of the initiative. Our business model provides 40% of the total profits towards the Wilsen initiative (Wi) activities such as  buying new balls, transport for the club etc, and  60% is shared between the makers or the designers and covers other costs such as  hiring of equipment, hosting of website etc.

Benefits of Joining Our Network;

a) We organize business training workshops where members learn how to create strong business models around their craft or talents.
b) We create platforms for linkages with possible collaborators.
c) We foster co-creation with other experts in related fields.
d) We market the finished products on available platforms especially feature stories on social media.

Services offered based on the individual skills and talents of youth who have already joined our network. We look forward to register more areas;

  1. Website design
  2. Merchandise  design
  3. Graphic design (Posters, Business cards etc.)
  4. Peer education
  5. Photography
  6. Documentary videos for individual and organizations/
  7. Design bootcamps
  8. Visual arts workshop

We encourage individuals, youth groups, corporate and related networks to contract our youth for any of the above mentioned, to enable them  build their experience and add to their portfolio without compromising on quality. Most ‘white collar’ jobs require  a minimum of 3 years experience which in most cases the youth  from informal settlements don’t possess, despite having the right skills that match the needs of the employer.

Take Action!

We urge youth to register with us by sending their profiles or letter of testimonial and sample of their work for showcasing on our platform. Send to info@wilsenx.com | wilson.masaka@gmail.com
